We had setup a Microsoft Direct Access system but the state governing IT body is doing some things that mess with the SSL cert so it doesn't work currently. Ater a few recommendations of getting a Cisco RV042G to do a site to site vpn setup we ordered one for testing. However I am running into a few issues.
RV042 set at 10.1.10.2, gateway of 10.1.10.1, all VPN passthrough enabled. SMC PPTP (TCP 1723) Port Forwarding set to 10.1.10.2. SMC GRE Port Forwarding to 10.1.10.2. RV042 PPTP Port Forwarding set to 192.168.1.10 (Server 2003 RAS/PPTP server) Even got my phone to VPN in, then RD to my server. Need to try telnet next. Trying to setup a Client to Gateway IPSEC VPN Tunnel on an RV042G with the latest firmware (v4.2.3.03). Tried all the basic variations, even dumbed it down to 3DES/SHA1. The limited log on the Cisco shows the IPSEC connection inbound, but the client just reports a timeout. I ended up adding RAS on one of my servers and opened the ports in my RV042. I have right now 8 site to site VPN tunnels with the RV042, and in my main office RAS is running on a server, anyone who needs to remote in with their laptops connect to the main office and can connect just fine, if they need to access something in another office, like I tried using the quick VPN Client and it has been unreliable. I want to know if someone has got the OpenVPN Client to work and how configure the rv042 and openVPN client. I have got other free clients on the MAC to work but not for the pc yet.

- The maximum data transfer rate for HTTP traffic on RV042G is approximately 150 Mbps. - The routers cannot set up the VPN connection and cannot be accessed through its web-based Configuration Utility after running for a long time with email logs enabled. - No log message is displayed when you select All RV042 to RV042 VPN with a NAT firewall on one side Regarding VPN Passthru, again I don't know for RV type routers, but usually you have to set up a single private IP address for that, which has to point to your VPN gateway. And it enables firewall rules to allow VPN related traffic (both inbound and outbound). So, indeed, it is both firewall setup and port forwarding, as you assumed correctly.
